On January 16, 2024, a meeting of the Working Group on “Improving the Civil Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan” was held in a hybrid format at the Institute of Law and Human Rights with interested parties (subjects applying Chapters 1–3 of the Civil Code or affected by such application).
The meeting was attended by stakeholders, including a judge of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan, representatives of the Ministry of Justice, the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs, the State Service for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control under the Ministry of Economy, the Azerbaijan Notary Chamber, the Bar Association, the UNICEF Azerbaijan Representative Office, the “Reliable Future” Social Initiatives Public Union, the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers) Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and members of the working group.
Opening the meeting with introductory remarks, Samir Mahmudov, Head of the Working Group and Executive Director of The Center for Legal Examination and Legislative Initiatives, provided information on the activity directions of the working group. Subsequently, during the meeting, the problems encountered in practice by interested parties regarding the application of Chapters 1–3 of the Civil Code, the elimination of these problems, as well as proposals for improving the provisions included in Chapters 1–3 of the Civil Code were heard, and questions addressed by the head and members of the working group were answered.
At the conclusion of the meeting, considering the proposals voiced by the interested parties, it was decided that the working group members would submit their substantiated proposals to the secretary of the working group by January 29, 2024.
